EYES OF A NATURALIST CONTEST: Reimagining Singaporeโ€™s Natural Past

Singapore

Have you ever wondered what your neighbourhood looked like before it became what it is today?

The Eyes of a Naturalist competition by Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum invites you to explore just that by reimagining Singaporeโ€™s landscapes through time, from rich natural habitats to the spaces we live in today. By reflecting on how our environments and biodiversity have changed, we can better understand our relationship with nature and how we can continue to coexist with the wildlife around us.

More Like Us Than You Think: The Parallels Between Human and Wild Animal Lives

7 June 2026 at 6:15:00 am

100 Victoria St, Singapore 188064

From raising families to defending territory, Singaporeโ€™s wildlife faces many of the same challenges that humans do. Animals such as macaques, otters, civets, and snakes respond to their environment in ways shaped by social relationships and learned behaviours โ€” much like us. In this talk, we explore the surprising parallels between human society and wildlife behaviour. Discover complex family dynamics, early-life experiences of young animals, strategies for avoiding conflict, and much more. By understanding the behavioural patterns behind these animalsโ€™ actions, we can replace fear with empathy and conflict with coexistence. Seeing wildlife as neighbours with their own social lives helps us make better choices that allow both people and animals to thrive in the same city.
